Identifying Those Incapable, Giving Voice to the Forgotten

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a profound battle, one that can push even the bravest souls to the edge of the abyss. This challenge becomes exacerbated when basic needs, such as food and shelter, become inaccessible. The intersection of PTSD and poverty can be catastrophic, and unfortunately, this is the reality for some of our nation’s heroes.

At Asufi, we’re recognizing a growing and silent trend: combat veterans reaching extreme destitution and homelessness, losing their families and friends, engulfed in shame and fear, and above all, being silent and hidden. It’s hard to find them, these difficult cases who cannot take care of themselves. The negative stigma surrounding mental health and homelessness worsens their situation. Many of these soldiers are isolated, making it harder to reach them with the help they desperately need.

Asufi is one of the few organizations actively finding combat veterans in complete disarray, unable to ask for and receive help.

We are committed to identifying and supporting these soldiers through several proactive measures:

Community Awareness: We spread the message across various networks, encouraging people to reach out to us if they know of a discharged soldier in need. Awareness is the first step towards action.

The Asufi Community: We ask everyone to check on the welfare of former comrades who might be struggling in silence.

Other Organizations: Since most organizations are not equipped to handle our cases, we turn to parallel organizations and take on the most challenging cases.

All services provided by the Asufi association are free of charge, without any payment whatsoever.

Asufi is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting discharged soldiers suffering from PTSD by addressing critical issues of hunger and homelessness. We believe in compassion, action, and the power of community. Join us in our mission to offer hope and assistance to those who have served us.

I immigrated from France at the age of 16 and enlisted as a lone soldier in the Paratroopers. I fought alongside Eyal Malachi, the founder of the Asufi Association Shoulder to Shoulder. After I was discharged from the IDF, I found myself thrown into years of PTSD. Asufi sought me out and found me. They helped me get out of the difficult situation I was in. I cannot find the words to thank Eyal and the men and women of the Asufi Association.

Ziv Yana

My name is Ziv Yana. I volunteered for the Paratroopers, to Battalion 890, and fought in the First Lebanon War where I was exposed to severe incidents. Many of my friends were killed. As a result, I suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder for many years.

The day I met Eyal Malachi from the Asufi Association changed my life.

The people of Asufi saved my life from an abyss with no way back, and thanks to them, I am standing on my own two feet.

Ziv Yana

My name is Yosef Harel, a wounded Tank Operator from the 14th Armored Brigade, Battalion 184, from the Yom Kippur War. I sincerely thank Eyal Malachi and the entire team of the Asufi Association for your faithful work that has been and is being done with devotion to help and support me, after many years of neglecting myself.

If not for the hand of God that intervened and brought Eyal and me together, I would not be here to thank him and the Asufi Association. Thank you, and may God bless you all.
